“Consciousness in photography comes out of an awakening to the interlocking interconnectedness of everything, from atoms to suns, space to time, light to dark, event to situation, man to Man, and Man to God.” Minor White, American fine art photographer (1908-1976) Do you believe in the spirituality of art? In the art world, someone is said to “have an eye” or have a gift for seeing an object for it’s true worth. I believe this gift is part of our spirituality, and that all of us are capable of this skill. It’s simply a matter of focus and discernment and grows with practice. Does art have a “power”? Centuries ago, the colors used in paintings were made from >>
On the Wings of Angels
“Angels are all around us and any heart who yearns to can reach out and touch a wing.” ~ Anonymous On our daily paths in our lives, angels are all around us. Most of us go about our routines and never notice their presence. And yet they are there, always, and ready to assist us. Have you ever met an angel? I believe that I have met several of them, and it is always an extraordinary feeling. The ones I have met have looked just like you and me, and yet the feeling of their presence is a subtle tingling that runs up your spine. The first time I remember meeting an angel was >>
Every Day is a Blessing
“Every day that dawns is a gift to me and I take it in that way. I accept it gratefully without looking beyond it.” ~ Henri Matisse In the late fall of 2013, I had the opportunity to visit a state park near where I lived in South Carolina just before sunset. This is one of my favorite times of the day to photograph, when the sun back lights the horizon and the trees, and creates silky reflections of the surroundings on water. To be able to walk freely and safely in such a beautiful natural setting is something to celebrate. There are many places on our planet that do not have this gift. I am grateful for >>
A Master in the Making
With probably the best collection of French furniture, paintings, and Sevres porcelain outside of the Louvre, the Wallace Collection in London is a treasure to see. Most of the lectures for my master’s degree program through the University of Buckingham were held here. Located on Manchester Square in the former family home of the Marquesses of Hertford, it’s probably also the only house where a Titian used to hang in the owner’s bathroom. It’s the intimate setting that enhances the experience of seeing history, and works of art by masters in their craft. Lessons learned from serving in apprenticeships are lovingly detailed in the Boulle work of a wardrobe, the intricate marquetry and mechanical genius of a secretaire >>
Dragon’s Dreams
“Self Empowerment is the recognition that each individual must take responsibility for one’s life… Empowerment is igniting our inner potential.” ~ David Hulse Facing ourselves is part of having a human experience. When we find someone or something is not to our liking, then it may be time to look within and see why that person or situation is unsettling to us. Dragons have been a part of the human consciousness for centuries. Depending on the cultural setting, dragons can be seen as useful or harmful. Good and evil are old beliefs based on fear and judgment, and are outdated in today’s world. It’s simply a matter of choice and perspective. Dreams are a wonderful opportunity to explore >>
