Victory and Remembrance
by Teri Leigh Teed
Today is Memorial day. In the morning, a thick, heavy fog covers this mountain cove and envelopes all in our field of vision. By mid-afternoon, the fog has dissolved and the sun is shining through the clouds.
In the genealogy of my mother’s family, there are many U.S. veterans, from the present to the Revolutionary War. Our “Uncle Frank”, Francis E. Brownell, was the first U.S. soldier to receive the Medal of Honor. My mother was named after his sister, Jayne Ann Brownell.
Remembering those who served our nation and placed themselves in harm’s way, this has been on my mind this weekend.
Yesterday while browsing through the photographs I created during the past several years for the Eleanor’s Dream series, I selected two and set each one to music. The tone of the music for each short video is more reflective and introspective than my usual choices.
It all came together when I saw both videos this morning and placed them on my Facebook page. I noticed shapes in one of the photos. First, the outline of a horse moving over the mountainside. Then the figure of a man riding on the horse, in a military style uniform, perhaps an officer.
And then I noticed the white figure on the left side of this remarkable photograph. Clearly an Angel, holding a garland crown of Victory. She, this Angel robed in a long, white gown, is also representing the Spirit of Remembrance.
So many symbols to see in this photograph, created in the dark of night, of a tall, stately Tulip Poplar in a meadow in a mountain cove. The only adjustments have been in the amount of light. So from pitch black darkness to the Light revealing a range of colors, shapes and figures. And each photograph, created within less than second from the next one, reveals different colors, and even different shapes and figures.
Everything we see is through our perception, so you may see other hidden messages in this photograph. That is one of the gifts of Eleanor’s Dream and this magical mountain cove here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina.
Blessings to all our veterans and their families. May the Spirit of Love fill us all with Peace and Goodwill.
