When I was a child, my Mom had a silhouette of me created by a master artist living in our home state of South Carolina. The Rice family artists, grandfather Carew, and grandson Clay, now have their famous “silhouette” profile and landscape art portraits exhibited in museums such as the South Carolina State Museum and the Greenville County Museum of Art, along with the hundreds of thousands of private collections, including my family’s. Named for the 18th century French artist, Etienne de Silhouette, these small portraits have an enduring appeal. This distinctive type of art was brought to my mind in this past year as I have been creating photographs and writing a new book. Several of the black and >>
Messages from the Clouds
One of the most beautiful things about living in the Blue Ridge Mountains is the abundance of clouds. Clouds have even been categorized by some people and names given to the type of cloud. Akin to profiling people in my humble opinion. Like people and animals and plants, clouds have their own shapes, sizes and personalities. And they come and go and shift with the wind. Since I have paid more attention to the skies overhead, the communications from Nature, including the clouds, has increased. This positive shift in energies has resulted in some extraordinary messages created through a camera. As I remain open and receptive to the Divine, the camera becomes part of the communications. And since >>
Joyful News
Our world is full of joyful news. And a lot of it, for us all. Being open to receive joyful news brings us more of the good. I just received joyful news from a friend and very talented artist in Australia. It is Winter in her part of the globe, and every month Michelle Endersby sends us all the news about roses; history, art and a bit of gardening. Her inspiring and enlightening messages, aptly entitled “Art, Gardens and Always Roses”, always lift my spirits and bring a smile to my face. When I was in elementary school, I loved reading, especially history and biographies. I read about Beethoven and Albert Schweitzer and many others. People who were >>
Celebrating Our Land of Dreams
The Fourth of July is being celebrated in a few days throughout the United States of America, and the world. What makes celebrating our dreams so special? It seems like a basic, universal, fundamental right, to be free to live our life missions joyfully and abundantly. So if we listen to our dreams, and act with good intentions, then we are taking steps to create our land of dreams. Many people around this planet still believe in the “American Dream”. I believe. The Light of Truth still shines, illuminating our paths, day and night. Who holds that light? We do. The power of Love is the strongest energy of all. Love is the binding force for Truth, for >>
Dance of the Light
In the evenings the fireflies command the skies over this mountain where I live. Unlimited in possibilities, they blink and flash, and whirl and slide their illuminated bodies in their otherworldly ritual of courtship. It is a great privilege and blessing to be able to see this heavenly display each night simply by looking out my window at home. Some drive hours to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to witness a similar dance of light, and may be turned away due to the large number of human visitors. The miracles of Nature are rock stars and attract more humans than any pop singer. Perhaps these tiny creatures touch our souls, and stir the inner child within us? >>
