Angels of Orange
by Teri Leigh Teed
Today the weather reminds me of Scotland. The wind is cooler and at times, fierce. Rain clouds cover the skies above us, and drop rain in a steady rhythm.
I have visited Scotland once, 25 years ago in July, and it made a very pleasant and memorable impression on me. It was a lovely, day- long trip by train from London to Aberdeen, then a leisurely drive with overnight stays in St. Andrews, Ballater, with a brief visit after dinner on a Summer’s Eve to the Loch beside Balmoral, and finally Edinburgh.
There are so many things in common with the look and feel of these Appalachian Mountains and the topography of Scotland. I have Scottish roots in my mother’s maternal side of the family, and share the same clan heritage with two friends here in Western North Carolina. No wonder the only Scottish Tartans Museum in the USA is located in Franklin, North Carolina.
The World Cup championship is being held in sports arenas all across our beautiful country. I have been keeping up with the teams from all over the world by watching online videos made by every day folks visiting the U.S.
The constant theme in these enlightening and entertaining productions is that these visitors are enthralled and in love with our country; with the incredible friendliness and kindness of the American people, the beauty of the vastness and diversity of the land, the culture, the amazing food. One visitor from South America was incredulous that he could have his coffee cup refilled at no extra cost.
It is truly a visit to the land of plenty for our cousins from around this beautiful planet we all call home. And it makes my heart happy to see such joy experienced by people who have never been to the USA, only seen and heard the stories of bad events from mainstream news.
Well, experiencing life here in person has definitely shifted the beliefs of our cousins in a most powerful and positive way.
May the Angels of Orange š bring blessings of Love, Peace, Prosperity and Goodwill to all. And may the Tartan Army of Scotland be the international ambassadors of positive energy, kilts and bagpipes, and of course, orange traffic cones topping off statues.
