The Harvest of Peace

October 22, 2020 1 Comment

“May there be peace in the North;
May there be peace in the South;
May there be peace in the West;
May there be peace in the East.
May there be peace throughout the whole world.”
  ~ Druid Blessing

It’s only a month ago the Autumn Equinox arrived here in the Northern Hemisphere.  This has always been a favorite time of the year for me, and many honor the recent Celtic festival of Mabon (September 22) as the balance of light and dark.  It is a time of reflection, and honoring our harvests.

Peace begins within each of us, and then extends to our neighbors and our world.  What other gift could we give ourselves at this time that would benefit our world more?

John Muir reminded us to “Keep close to Nature’s heart and break clear away once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods.”  Living here in the Nantahala Forest reminds me of this prayer every day.  I feel Mother Nature’s heart day and night, and it comforts me immensely.

As the Celtic history honors the Green Man of the forests, so our soul’s desire to honor that light within us. Our hearts yearn for the harvest of peace and prosperity.  And when we choose peace and prosperity, and we gift ourselves with the time and space to create that harvest within us, we fill our lives with joy.

As the leaves here are changing to spectrums of yellow and golds and oranges and reds, our eyes take in this feast and a smile fills people’s faces.  Apples are ripe and leaves free fall for all to enjoy.

From the Blue Ridge Mountains near Sylva, North Carolina, to our world, blessings to us all.  May this year’s harvest be good fortune for all.

    Thanks for your post and the beautiful picture of autumn. You capture the seasons so beautifully.
    Your post reminds me of the song we learned in the ’60’s and ’70’s:

    “Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me;
    Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.
    With God as our Father, brothers all are we,
    Let me walk with my brother in perfect harmony.
    Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now;
    With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow –
    To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally.
    Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.”

    I trust you will experience the peace and joy of Christ in this autumn season!

Her photography invoked memories when I was a child, laying down on the grass and gazing at the sky while the clouds floated by … Teri somehow successfully expresses these elements of nature we are so ignorant to.

I found your site to be inspiring as you are one whose blessings are abundant. It is when we share our light and life with others that we emerge more empowered.

I’m so impressed with your writing – it has a beautiful sense of style, like YOU! The photographs you included perfectly illustrate the topic and make the piece quite inspiring. Congratulations!!
