Mountain Laurel, Blue Ridge Mountains
Of all the beautiful flowers here in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Mountain Laurel and their “cousins” the Rhododendrons are my favorites. I love how the newly formed flower buds remind me of icing sculptures on a cake. These flowers bring happiness and color to the winding roads and scenic vistas of western North Carolina in May and June. The Rhododendrons inspired me to write a song “Back Where the Rhododendrons Grow”, which I sang at the second performance of “Seasons of the South, the Original Homegrown Musical and Storytelling Show©.
